Armani men's show eyes natural elegance

(ANSA) - Milan, June 21 - Iconic designer Giorgio Armani closed off the Milan menswear fashion shows on Tuesday with a runway collection that highlighted the natural and elegant side of masculinity.
    "A man has to work and to do so he has to be dressed in a specific way, it's not like he can go to an important meeting in a bomber jacket...let's give the right space to fashion in the context of life, let's not make men become quite ridiculous," he said.
    "There is an unnecessary confusion, one needs to be discerning. Fashion is not needed to send messages that have no sense, this is the true meaning of classic Milanese fashion," he said.
    He said Milan was the city most adapted for "maintaining a different style, made up of things that can be seen on the street, the place where one comes to buy a creativity that keeps in mind service to the public, to industry, and to Italy," he said.
    His collection included natural styles such as jackets that resembled shirts, a touch of Pompeii-red that cuts through more uniform neutral colours, and unusually baggy trousers.
    The show, attended by American actor Kevin Spacey and popstar Ricky Martin, presented a natural-looking man who walks with his hands in his pockets and a straw hat on his head.
    Armani also said he was tired of being the only designer to put on a catwalk show on the last day of Milan's menswear Fashion Week.
    "I walk the runway last on my own, but it doesn't have to be me at all costs," Armani said after his show, the only one on the agenda for Tuesday, the last day of Milan Fashion Week.
    "The chamber of fashion should do more," he said, urging the organisation whose role is to promote Italian fashion to set up the conditions for him to be part of a group of designers so that the sector can boost its profile and turnover.
