Altaroma showcases young designers

(ANSA) - Rome, January 27 - The Altaroma showcase of young and emerging fashion designers is set to take place at Rome's Ex Dogana from January 29-31, with a pre-opening event January 28.
    The event is being held with support from the industry ministry and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), aims to increase the range of support for emerging talents and heightening the level of international attention to their projects.
    Testifying to the renewed effort given to the search for young creatives, Altaroma organisers called the venue at Rome's Ex Dogana "perfectly suited to host the contemporary".
    The Ex Dogana is a 24,000-square-metre space from 1925 designed by architect Angiolo Mazzoni, recently reviewed as an industrial archaeology site by the culture ministry on its quality list.
    The event is divided into three sections: Fashion Hub, dedicated to scouting and the promotion of emerging talents; Atelier, with presentations and runway shows from fashion houses, small ateliers and tailors; and In Town, aimed at promoting networking and contacts useful for one's business in the city.
    The Fashion Hub will showcase designers discovered in Altaroma and Vogue Italia's "Who Is On Next?" scouting contests, including 2015 winner L72, as well as Miaoran, Luca Sciascia, Giuseppe Di Morabito (2015 finalist) and Greta Boldini (2013 finalist).
    Coin Excelsior department store in Rome will feature designs from Altamoda winners in its shop windows.
    The featured designers - Avanblanc, Catherine de' Medici 1533, Elena Ghisellini, Federica Berardelli, Giancarlo Petriglia, L72 and Quattromani - will present a runway show/performance of their Fall/Winter 2016-2017 collections.
    Altaroma offers students from Accademia Koefia, Accademia Costume & Moda, and Frosinone's Accademia di Belle Arti the chance to present their final projects during the event.
    In addition, the Portfolio Review project gives under-40 students, active designers, artisans, photographers and video artists the chance to have their portfolios reviewed by Sara Maino, senior editor at Vogue Italia and Vogue Talents.
