(ANSA) - BOLOGNA, APR 9 - Solo events dedicated to writers Dacia Maraini, Claudio Magris and Alessandro Baricco will be held when Italy takes centre stage at the 2024 Frankfurt Book Fair, Mauro Mazza, the government's extraordinary commissioner for the nation's involvement, told ANSA on Tuesday.
Carlo Rovelli, Susanna Tamaro and Stefano Zecchi will be the faces of Italian writing at the fair between October 16 and 20, when Italy will be the guest of honour for the first time in 36 years.
A total of around 100 Italian writers will take part in over 150 encounters at the fair.
"The Italian Publishers Association (AIE) brought us a list of names and together we chose 100 authors representing all genres," Mazza said at the Children's Book Fair in Bologna.
"The solo events will focus on specific skills.
"With Magris we will talk about Central Europe. The other writers will make literary genre comparisons in four arenas, two in the pavilion designed by Stefano Boeri and two in the AIE area.
"There will be specific meetings on publishing for young people and many cultural discussions.
"We have chosen themes that concern Europe. Culture must create debate and convergences where politics often divides and contrasts".
Mazza said music will also play an important part, with, among other things, operatic trio Il Volo performing on October 19.
