Italian design great Gaetano Pesce has died

Up chair creator passed away in New York aged 84

(ANSA) - ROME, APR 4 - The great Italian designer, architect and artist Gaetano Pesce has died at the age of 84 in New York.
    Among other things, Pesce is famous for designing the iconic Up chair.
    "It is a with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of visionary creator Gaetano Pesce," said a statement on the designer's Instagram profile.
    "Over the course of six decades, Gaetano revolutionized the worlds of art, design, architecture and the liminal spaces between these categories.
    "Despite dealing with health related set backs, especially in the last year, Gaetano remained positive, playful and ever curious.
    "He is survived by his children, family, and all who adored him.
    "His uniqueness, creativity and special message will live on through his art.
    "Ciao Gaetano".
    Born in La Spezia in 1939, Pesce studied architecture and industrial design in Venice.
    He had lived in Helsinki, Paris and, since 1983, in the United States. (ANSA).
