(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 9 - This is a great moment for Italian archaeology said Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano on the Day of Italian Archaeology Abroad promoted by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday, recalling the recent discovery of the San Casciano bronzes that are to go on display at the Quirinale palace shortly; and the newly restored bridal carriage discovered at Pompeii two years ago.
"In archaeology we find our roots, our identity," said Sangiuliano.
"It is a piece of the Italian image that we want to project to the world, he continued, praising the work of archaeologists.
"There is not always economic satisfaction, and everything must be compensated for by the passion and civic commitment that is put into this activity," said the minister.
"A lot of time has passed since (the founding of the Italian Archaeological School in Athens in) 1909, but the spirit of that era lives on," concluded Sangiuliano. (ANSA).
