(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 30 - Italian rock band Måneskin are riding high with their new album Rush! top of the iTunes charts in 20 countries, including Italy, France and the USA: The rockers are also in the running for the best new artists award at next weekend's Grammy's and their golden moment has been certified with a feature in the style section of the New York Times.
The piece by fashion editor Vanessa Friedman, entitled "The Joy of Dressing Like a Rock God", focuses on how bass player Victoria De Angelis, drummer Ethan Torchio, lead singer Damiano David and guitarist Thomas Raggi have used style to make a statement.
Among other things, it refers to the mock wedding staged in Rome to launch Rush! in which the band members vowed "to be faithful to each other always, in joy and in pain, in love and in honour" every day of their lives in a ceremony that was presided over by former Gucci artistic director Alessandro Michele.
"Rarely has a young band used fashion to amplify and extend its message with quite as much eye-popping cheer as Maneskin," wrote Friedman.
"From the time it burst onto the global scene in Rotterdam in metallic burgundy leather lace-up Etro, looking like the love children of Jimi Hendrix and Abba and belting out "Zitti e Buoni," the band has become synonymous with a particularly kind of gleeful rock god get-up".
The Rome group, who first won fame in Italy by taking part in the X Factor, have enjoyed major international success since winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021. (ANSA).
