(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 19 - Some 51% of Italian 15-year-olds are unable to understand a given written text, Save The Children (STC) said Thursday.
"This is dramatic not only for the education system and for economic development but also for sustaining the democratic fabric of the country," said STC Italia President Claudio Tesauro.
He said the worst affected youths were students from poor backgrounds, those living in the south of Italy and those with a migrant background.
Tesauro pointed to a"generational injustice" due to COVID saying the pandemic had disproportionately affected children and young people. (ANSA).
