(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 10 - Bulgari continued its efforts to support art and culture with the ceremony for the first Bulgari Contemporary Art Award at the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on Wednesday.
The annual award was founded by Bulgari in collaboration with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) with the support of the Italy Pavilion.
The ceremony was attended by, among others, Giuseppe Finocchiaro, the Italian Consul-General in Dubai, Paolo Glisenti, Italy's Commissioner-General for Expo 2020 Dubai, Dubai Culture President Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoume, Bulgari Group CEO Jean Christophe Babin and Lucia Boscaini, Brand Curator at Bulgari.
The 17 artists in the running for the prize took their inspiration from the theme of the Italy Pavilion, Beauty Connects People.
The winner was Nima Nabavi, a Dubai-based artist who uses geometric concepts to create works of art.
The winning work will be displayed at the Italy Pavilion and Nabavi has won a trip to Rome.
"Bulgari has always been active for art, sponsoring restoration projects like those for the Spanish Steps, the Caracalla Baths and Largo Argentina (in Rome) and supporting contemporary art too, with the Maxxi Bulgari prize, for example," Babin told ANSA.
"We really liked the idea of doing the same thing not just in Italy, but also in other parts on the world, in particular in the Middle East, including within the sphere of this extraordinary Expo.
"We laid down this challenge to Emirati talents, starting from Bulgari's colours to design them in their own way with painting, sculpture and photography". (ANSA).
