(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 3 - The Sanremo Song Festival improved on its first night audience figures for the first time on its second night Wednesday, drawing 11.32 million viewers and a 55.8% share compared to 10.911 million and 54.7% on the opening night Tuesday.
It is the best second night audience figure for the week-long extravaganza since 1995.
Tuesday night saw a star turn by comic actor Checco Zalone and the announcement that Mika, Alessandro Cattelan and Laura Pausini will host the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin on May 10-14, after last year's win by Roman rockers Maneskin.
Senegal born actress Lorena Cesarini also spurred applause with an impassioned appeal against racism while there was a heartfelt tribute to screen icon Monica Vitti who died Wednesday aged 90.
Elisa topped the contest voting on the second night, joining first-night stars Mahmood-Blanco at the top of the rankings.
