(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 28 - Eurovision winners Maneskin sent their first US audience in a storied New York rock venue wild with their provocative style and manic crowdsurfing Wednesday night.
Shouting "Italy does it better", the hard-rocking band made up of Damiano David (vocals), Victoria De Angelis (bass), Thomas Raggi (guitar) and Ethan Torchio (drums) fed the frenzied crowd in the Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan for an hour and a half.
The Bowery is where the godmother of punk Patti Smith played for 15 years straight and where legends like Tony Bennett, Coldplay, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Metallica, and Robert Plant have strutted their stuff.
With their genderless style, dressed in red and purple, the Italian Fab Four played 13 numbers including their Eurovision winner 'Zitti e buoni', 'Mammamia', 'In nome del padre', and 'Beggin', a cover of the '60s Four Seasons hit that has been top of the world Spotify playlists for the last few days.
Many present compared the show to a classic Rolling Stones performance - the rock and roll greats Maneskin will open for on November 6 in Las Vegas.
"Are you ready motherf*****s?" screamed Damiano before jumping onto the crowd and then inviting dozens of fans onstage for a mass pile-up that ended the set.
According to Forbes magazine, "with over 38 million monthly listeners on Spotify Maneskin are firmly intent on joining the greatest rock exponents of the current generation".
Emulating the Beatles, the band made their first US TV appearance on the iconic Tonight Show, where host Jimmy Fallon announced the Stones gig.
Before playing the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas ahead of the ageless British rock giants, Maneskin will be at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood in Los Angeles on Monday NOvember 1.
