(ANSA) - Milan, October 31 - The creator of the post-1970 World Cup trophy, Milanese sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga, died overnight in his Milan home aged 95.
Gazzaniga won a FIFA worldwide contest in 1970 to replace the Jules Rimet Trophy that Brazil took home after winning their third title.
The new trophy, showing two stylized players happily holding up the world, represented "the joy, exultation and greatness of athletes at the moment of victory," he said.
