From Macro to monumental mural along the Tiber

(ANSA) - Rome, April 18 - The masterpieces presented at the Venice Biennale as well as the rough drafts for 'Triumphs and Laments', thought up in Johannesburg and Rome, have been brought together for the first time in an exhibition that will run through October 2 in the Macro museum in the Italian capital. The exhibition is dedicated to the genius of William Kentridge, creator of a monumental mural along the walls flanking the Tiber River from Ponte Sisto to Ponte Mazzini, which will be inaugurated on April 21-22. In speaking to the press, the South African artist said that the truly arduous task had been "that of getting permissions". The multidisciplinary, non-profit project took a year to complete, while the Macro exhibition is "a summary of the entire project and a work unto itself", Kentridge said. The inauguration of 'Triumphs and Laments' will be held on April 21 in honor of the day celebrating the founding of Rome.
