Strike won't halt Bolle's Manon

'Reduced sets and lighting' due to CGIL action

(ANSA) - Milan, November 11 - Superstar dancer Roberto Bolle will appear as scheduled in Manon at Milan's La Scala opera house on Thursday but with "reduced sets and lighting" due to a strike among stage technicians.
Bolle and his co-star Svetlana Zakharova, the ballet corps of La Scala and the orchestra conducted by David Coleman have all confirmed their presence for the opening, a statement from the opera house said.
"La Scala is sorry for the discomfort but considered enabling the public to see the performance in any case to be a priority," the statement continued. Thursday's strike has been called by Italy's biggest trades union confederation CGIL in protest over the decision by theatre management not to take on new technical hires. The 1974 ballet Manon is choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan to music by Jules Massenet and based on the 1731 novel Manon Lescaut by Abbé Prévost.
