Man and Nature in Milan Expo show

(ANSA) - Milan, May 19 - The representation of nature in the Classical world and man's interaction with his natural environment are the themes of an exhibition opening in Milan at the end of July to coincide with Expo, organisers said Tuesday. 'Myth and Nature' at Palazzo Reale until January 10, 2016 will bring together over 200 Greek, Roman and Magna Graecia artifacts including the famous painted Blue Vase from the archaeological excavations at Pompei, terracotta votive offerings, statues, frescoes and luxury objects, displayed chronologically and in six themed sections. The works come from Italian and international museums including the archaeological museum in Athens, the Kunsthistoriches Museum in Vienna, the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris. In addition, a garden evoking the peristyle garden of ancient Roman houses will be created behind Palazzo Reale containing plants in use 2,000 years ago. "This exhibition is closely linked to Expo and its themes because it sheds light on nature's influence on western civilisation and its origins," said Milan city councillor for culture, Filippo Del Corno.
    "In the six-month period during which the world in Milan tries to forge a new relationship with the environment is is important to highlight the roots of our relationship with the planet we live on and its resources, from both a scientific and artistic point of view," he said.
