Sala lauds Expo 'half-miracle'

(ANSA) - Rome, March 31 - A "half-miracle" has been preformed over the last year with respect to preparations for Expo 2015, commissioner and CEO Giuseppe Sala said Tuesday.
    "Unfortunately things that shouldn't have happened did," said Sala in reference to a high-profile scandal that broke last summer concerning allegations of corruption in relation to contracts for the Universal Exposition in Milan.
    "However, the reaction from the government and the system has been commendable," he continued, thanking the president of Italy's anti-corruption authority Raffaele Cantone in particular.
    "Collaborative works inspections have been fundamental. The works have not been delayed. Companies approaching Expo in recent tender competitions have understood that the margins for dishonesty are very limited," Sala concluded.
