Precious Roman statue depicting Mithras also seized

ANSA) - Rome, March 27 - Art cops from the Italian Carabinieri cultural-heritage protection unit on Friday announced the recovery of two precious works of art: a painting by Picasso worth 15 million euros and a precious Roman statue representing the god Mithras. The Picasso painting which belongs to the artist's Cubist period was about to be exported.
    The Roman statue depicts Mithras in his classic act of killing a bull. Similar sculptures on display at the Vatican Museums and at the British Museum command an initial valuation of at least eight million euros.
