(ANSA) - Florence, October 2 - Restoration work on Pompeii isn't a temporary fix but rather a permanent commitment, Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said Thursday on the sidelines of the third UNESCO World Forum on Culture and Cultural Industries.
"I'd like people to know that Pompeii is a permanent worksite. It's 66 extraordinary hectares of heritage," Franceschini said.
Franceschini said the ministry was striving to meet EU deadlines on 105 million euros allocated for the Great Pompeii Project.
In July, Franceschini signed an agreement with European Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn for a joint action plan to accelerate work and complete it by the end of 2015.
