(ANSA) - Rome, September 22 - Major Italian labor union CGIL said on Monday it hopes Rome opera house conductor Riccardo Muti will reconsider his decision to resign, which he did in a letter on Saturday to Rome Opera General Manager Carlo Fuortes.
Entertainment workers' union Fistel Cisl also said it hopes Muti will rethink his decision to not conduct the remaining season performances.
Rome's Opera has been plagued by recurring strikes which have forced cancellations of performances, management turmoil, and revenue loss of nearly 13 million euros in 2013 and over 300,000 euros as of July 2014.
"Current conditions (at the opera house) don't guarantee me the serenity I need to lead successful productions," Muti said.
