(ANSA) - Rome, August 19 - A burst water main that flooded a ditch around Augustus' Mausoleum as visitors were queuing for a rare peek of the monument on the 2000th anniversary of the first Roman emperor's death was fixed late Tuesday.
The leak from the old pipe, officials said, did not spoil the enjoyment of the visitors who had lined up since the early hours to get into the usually closed monument to Augustus, who died on August 19, 14 AD.
A wooden walkway was hastily erected to get them inside the fabled tomb, which is undergoing a lengthy restoration.
