Jazz musician Gaslini dies aged 84

Prolific performer awarded career medal in 2002

(ANSA) - Parma, July 29 - Composer, conductor and pianist Giorgio Gaslini, a pioneer of modern Italian jazz, died on Tuesday aged 84.
    Born in Milan on October 22, 1929, Gaslini gave around 4,000 concerts throughout the world during his long and prolific career. He also composed several sound tracks including for the film "La Notte" by Michelangelo Antonioni.
    In 2002 Gaslini received a gold medal from then President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in recognition of his contributions to culture and art.
    He died in hospital in Parma after being admitted around a month ago as a result of a fall.
