Italy's greenhouse emissions fell 6.2% in 2023 - report

Drop thanks to decarbonisation in energy industry sectors -ISPRA

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 9 - Italy's greenhouse gas emissions are estimated to have decreased by 6.2% in 2023 compared to 2022, according to a report released on Thursday by the ISPRA environment agency. It said the drop was driven by decarbonisation efforts in the energy and industry sectors, subject to European ETS emission taxation, and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from heating due to mild winter periods.
The report added, however, that transport emissions continued to increase, rising by about 1% due to the heavy use of cars and road freight transport and the low market penetration of electric cars. (ANSA).
