(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 14 - Migrants and refugees rescued by the Ocean Viking after several days adrift in the Central Mediterranean report that "at least 60 people" died during the journey, NGO Sos Mediterranee said on Thursday.
The 25 survivors rescued by the humanitarian ship on Wednesday after seven days at sea have reportedly told the crew they set sail from Zawiya in Libya.
"The engine broke down after three days, leaving the boat adrift without water and food," Sos Mediterranee said on X.
"Survivors say at least 60 people died during the journey, including women and at least one child," it added.
Two of the 25 survivors had to be medically evacuated by the Italian Coast Guard during the night after losing consciousness.
They were taken to hospital in Sicily. (ANSA).
