(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 27 - A 14-year-old boy saved a roe deer that ran into the sea after being hit by a car and injured on a highway in Abruzzo at the weekend, local sources said Monday.
Samuel Massa, from Fossacesia near Chieti, did not hesitate when he saw the animal struggling in the water and dived in to rescue it, they said.
Massa, who attends a nautical institute in nearby Ortona, will be received and awarded a prize in the next few days by Fossacesia Mayor Enrico Di Giuseppantonio.
"Sensitivity and good behaviour must always be rewarded, above all when young people are concerned," said the official.
"Sometimes, like in this case, we are surprised because too often we describe the new generations as insensitive to everything that surrounds them.
"Samuel's act, on the other hand, who dived into the sea while he was fishing with a friend in order to save a deer deserves a big thank you from all of us". (ANSA).
