(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 6 - An Italian man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of sending death threats to Nicola Gratteri, an Italian prosecutor who is in round the clock police protection as he contonues to lead the fight against Italy's most powerful mafia, Calabria-based 'Ndrangheta, despite recently being transferred from Catanzaro to Naples.
The man, Salvo Gregorio Mirarchi, was arrested by the Salerno and Catanzaro flying squads on charges of threatening a public official, aggravated by using mafia methods.
Mirarchi also allegedly threatened a deputy prosecutor from Salerno whose identity has not been disclosed.
He is accused of being the author of a letter containing death threats against both prosecutors.
'Ndrangheta controls much of the European cocaine trade. (ANSA).
