(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 20 - Gino Cecchettin, the father of murdered 22-year-old biomedical information engineering student Giulia, said on Monday he felt no anger but only thought of his daughter "who is no longer there".
"I don't feel anger, I don't feel anything. I think of my Giulia who is no longer there for me," Cecchettin told reporters as he left his home in Vigonovo near Venice in the northern Veneto region.
Giulia's ex boyfriend Filippo Turetta was arrested on an international warrant in Germany on Sunday on suspicion of kidnapping and murder after an eight-day manhunt in Italy and nearby countries.
His arrest near Leipzig came a day after fellow biomedical information engineering student Giulia's body was found with many knife wounds to the neck and head, as well as defensive wounds, in a gully near a lake in the northeastern Italian Friuli region.
Turetta is due to be extradited to Italy in the coming days.
The case has grabbed headlines in the country and brought the issue of gender-based violence (GBV) back to the forefront of public debate.
On Thursday Premier Giorgia meloni said she was seeking agreement on measures to up the fight against GBV and opposition centre-left Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein has called for an immediate law introducing compulsory education on respect and affectivity in all schools. (ANSA).
