(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 8 - Premier Giorgia Meloni said on
Thursday she would be in Tunisia with European Commission
President Ursula von der Leyen and Dutch Prime Minister Mark
Rutte on Sunday to open discussion at European level on how to
help the struggling North African country and prevent a "domino
effect" of problems further down the line.
"On Sunday we will return to Tunisia with von der Leyen and
Rutte to open the negotiation on the European level to help a
country in difficulty" and avoid "a domino effect of further
problems," Meloni told reporters after a meeting with German
Chancellor Olaf Scholz at Palazzo Chigi in Rome.
The mission aims to encourage reforms that would trigger a
critical IMF bailout amid political and social turmoil that has
spurred a huge increase in migration by sea to Italy.
The trio will meet in Tunis with President Kais Saied with the
issues of migration and economic and energy cooperation topping
the agenda, the European Commission said on Thursday. (ANSA).
