'Italy has not yet submitted RepowerEu proposal' - EC

'Constant contact ongoing' adds spokesperson

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 5 - Italy has not yet submitted its proposal for including RePowerEU measures to save energy, produce clean energy and diversify energy supplies in its post-Covid National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), a European Commission spokesperson said on Monday.
"Italy has not yet submitted the new chapter on RepowerEu for inclusion in the NRRP" as part of its revision of the EU funded scheme to make the Italian economy greener and more modern on condition that all agreed targets are met by 2026, said the spokesperson.
There is, however, "constant contact" between Italy and Brussels, she added.
Italy has access to 2.7 billion euros under the REPowerEU plan approved by the EU in February 2023 to reduce dependency on Russian fossil fuel imports, and which includes additional resources for financing investment and reforms related to the energy transition and decarbonisation.
Member States have been invited to present new RePowerEU chapters to their NRRP indicating "new measures and new investments" rather than a transfer of resources, the spokesperson said.
Changes to the NRRP can still be requested if justified by objective reasons, she added. (ANSA).
