Italy condemned by EU parliament for anti-LGBT rhetoric

Amendment blasts spread by politicians, governments

(ANSA) - ROME, APR 20 - The European parliament on Thursday approved an amendment condemning Italy, Poland and Hungary over their use of anti-rights, anti-gender and anti-LGBTIQ rhetoric.
    The amendment "strongly condemns the spread of anti-rights, anti-gender and anti-LGBTIQ rhetoric by some influential political leaders and governments in the EU, as in the case of Hungary, Poland and Italy." The amendment, which was approved by 282 votes in favor, 235 against and 10 abstentions, had been added to a resolution calling for the universal decriminalization of homosexuality and transgender identity, in response to newly adopted anti-homosexuality legislation in Uganda. The resolution was approved with 416 votes in favor, 62 against and 36 abstentions. (ANSA).
