(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 30 - The European Court of Human Rights
(ECHR) on Thursday condemned Italy for its treatment of four
Tunisian migrants in 2017.
The condemnation concerned the "precarious material conditions
in which the four migrants were detained for 10 days in the
Lampedusa hotspot in Contrada Imbriacola" and the fact that they
were "arbitrarily deprived of their liberty."
The court also condemned Italy for the "collective expulsion"
carried out against the migrants, who were allegedly sent back
to Tunisia without a prior examination of their individual
situations to see if they ran risks if returned.
The ECHR ruled that Rome must pay each migrant 8,500 euros in
compensation. (ANSA).
