(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 22 - An Italian elementary schoolmistress allegedly helped fugitive Mafia superboss Matteo Messina Denaro during his 30-year flight from justice, sources said Wednesday.
The teacher, Laura Bonafede, has been accused of being "close" to the Cosa Nostra kingpin, who was caught at a Palermo cancer clinic on January 16.
She teaches at a school in the boss's home town of Castelvetrano near Trapani.
Bonafede has been suspended for 10 days by the Istituto Capuana-Pardo school in Castelvetrano pending possible disciplinary or criminal action.
ANSA sources said Wednesday that her case will be discussed Thursday by Education and Merit Minister Giuseppe Valditara and Sicily's education pointman Mimmo Turano. (ANSA).
