(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 20 - COVID-19 cases dropped 1% while hospital admissions with the virus fell by 7.9% over the last week, independent medical foundation GIMBE said in its last weekly report on the pandemic Monday.
Deaths were down 1.9% and intensive care cases steady.
GIMBE President Nino Cartabellotta said the foundation was stopping its report after three years "in consideration of the progressive reduction in viral circulation since December 2022, the ever lower impact on hospitalizations and deaths, the substantive halt to the vaccine campaign on boost shots, and the absence of concerning new variants".
He said he trusted GIMBE had given the country "useful service" and said it would continue to update pandemic and vaccine data on its website.
In data on the vaccine roll-out, he said there had been fewer than 500,000 fifth doses in the last five months. (ANSA).
