11 weekend victims as avalanches sweep Alps

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 6 - Some 11 skiers lost their lives in the Alps over the weekend, almost all victims of avalanches while they weer off-piste.
    But in the Schwemmalm sking centre, in Val d'Ultimo, a 36-year-old skier was killed in a crash with a snowboarder.
    Three of the avalanche victims were in Alto Adige.
    A further five were in Tyrol on Sunday.
    These followed another three in Austria on Saturday, taking the weekend toll there to eight.
    The avalanches were caused by a recent rise in temperatures as a sunny spell hit the northern mountains and the rest of Italy.
