MSF ship to land 248 migrants at Salerno says French NGO

(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 9 - The Doctors Without Borders (MSF) run migrant rescue ship Geo Barents is set to land 248 men, women and children in the port of Salerno, the French NGO said on Twitter Friday.
    The Norwegian flagged ship has been assigned Salerno as a safe port, it said.
    "After two requests for a place of safety sent to #Italian authorities, #Salerno was assigned as the port to disembark the 248 survivors currently on board the #GeoBarents.
    "This is more than 24 hours from the current location of the ship with bad sea conditions." MSF Sea said "This is a relief for the children, women and men who went through harrowing experiences since leaving their countries of origin. They deserve to disembark in a place of safety and get the necessary care and protection they need." (ANSA).
