(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 16 - Italy's first female university head has died at the age of 94, her family said Wednesday.
Rome-born Biancamaria Tedeschini Lalli graduated from La Sapienza University in 1928 before holding various teaching positions in America including Berkeley and Harvard.
She was chosen as rector of the newly detached Roma Tre University in 1992, serving as its dean until 1998 when she became rector of the Foro Italico University, again in the Italian capital, a post she held until her retirement in 2003.
She won several awards including the Femme d'Europe Prize in 1993; the Hard-Working Prize in 1995, and the Roma Prize in 1996.
Her achievement as Italy's first women uni head eared her the title of Grand Officer of the Italian Republic from then President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in 2000. (ANSA).
