Confidence is a precious good - president on World Savings Day

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 31 - The government must defend Italian's savings and incomes against inflation which hit a post-March 1984 high of 11.9% in October, President Sergio Mattarella said Monday.
The government is set to meet later Monday to pass the first measures against soaring energy bills, a cost of living crisis, inflation, and a looming recession.
"The defence of the value of incomes and savings against the growth of inflation, due to the upsurge in the cost of energy and other basic goods, appears now more than ever to be a primary task which the Republic is bound to carry out by its Constitution," Mattarella said in a telegramme to the 98th World Savings Day.
Amid the current "climate of uncertainty", the head of State added, "confidence is a precious good". (ANSA).
