Italy should have enough gas for winter says Eni chief

But Descalzi warns that system is at 'full stretch'

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 6 - Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said Thursday that Italy should have enough gas to make it through the winter, despite uncertainty about supplies from Russia, unless a major unforeseen event occurs.
"Russian gas has effectively been replaced (by supplies from other countries). Our stocks are full," Descalzi told a webinar organized by daily newspaper Il Messaggero.
"The Russian gas that is still coming, 10-15 million cubic metres a day, is constant.
"We can be tranquil about the winter because of these conditions.
"But the system is at full stretch because there isn't the Russian gas to give it stability.
"There could be technical problems with the supplier countries, a colder winter than the statistical level for the last four years.
"Efficiency has increased recently and gas consumption and decreased by 10-15%.
"We mustn't be pessimistic but realistic". (ANSA).
