(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 6 - A fireworks party on Wednesday night greeted the release of a prominent member of a Rome crime family after he served a six-year sentence for headbutting an Italian TV reporter and breaking his nose.
The Spada family pulled out all the stops to hail the release of Roberto Spada, who was let out of Tolmezzo prison in northern Italy on Friday.
In December 2018 a Rome appeals court upheld the six-year prison term for Spada, a member of the notorious criminal gang in the Rome seaside district of Ostia, for his brutal attack on a crew working for State broadcaster RAI the previous year.
The court confirmed that mafia methods were an aggravating factor in the attack on reporter Daniele Piervincenzi, whose nose was broken, and cameraman Edoardo Anselmi, who suffered bruising to the back, on November 7, 2017.
The Spadas run drugs and protection rackets in Ostia, as well as other mafia-style operations. (ANSA).
