COVID-19: 54,088 new cases, 244 more deaths

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 29 - Italy has registered 54,088 new COVID-19 cases and 244 coronavirus-linked deaths in the last 24-hour period, the health ministry said on Friday.
    That compares to 60,381 new cases and 199 deaths on Thursday.
    It said 281,658 COVID tests had been done in the last 24 hours and the positivity rate was 19.2%, down from 20.3% on Thursday.
    The ministry said 400 COVID patients were in intensive care, a drop of six in one day, and 10,768 were in ordinary hospital wards, a fall of 143. (ANSA).
