(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 13 - Violence against women in Italy rose 3.5% last year over 2020, the D.i.Re anti-domestic abuse group said Wednesday in a report on the women who turned to its shelters.
Last year a total of 20,711 women went to a D.i.Re centre, they said.
Almost half, 46%, were aged between 30 and 49.
They were prevalently Italian (only 26% were of a different nationality), a constant figure over the last few years.
The perpetrators of violence were also prevalently Italian, with only 27% being of foreign nationality, the report said.
Domestic abuse and wider gender violence rose during COVID lockdowns. (ANSA).
