Kosovo: 'illegal' Serbian structures removed by police

Belgrade protests over 'intimidation of Serbian population'

(ANSAmed) - PRISTINA, JULY 7 - In Kosovo, special police forces on Thursday morning removed "illegal facilities" in the Serbian enclave of Shtrpce, in the north, prosecutors in Ferizaj announced. State attorneys said the operation concerned in particular four sites in the area, from which security cameras considered illegal were also removed. No arrests have been carried out so far, according to the same source. Prosecutor Easim Maloku told local media that the operation was still ongoing. Belgrade's authorities strongly protested for what they described as a new intentional action by Pristina, directed at intimidating and terrorizing the Serbian population of Kosovo to induce members to leave their homes and move to Serbia.
The existence of parallel structures in the Serbian-majority north and in several Serbian enclaves across Kosovo regarding the school, judicial and administrative systems is a key point of friction in dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which periodically heats up with reciprocal accusations and fiery statements.
