(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 4 - An Italian man who was dancing on the
cover of an artesian well at his 40th birthday party fell in and
died when a stone slat broke and sent him plunging 25 metres
near Trapani in Sicily at the weekend.
Antonio Andreani, from Molfetta, is thought to have died
instantly.
The incident took place at Erice.
Andreani decided to have a blow-out party to celebrate his
milestone birthday, especially as a cancer survivor, family
members said.
Egged on by revellers, he got up onto the well manhole, which
resembled a small stage, and led the dancing before the fatal
accident.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to revive
him.
An autopsy was ordered. (ANSA).
