COVID facemasks no longer compulsory but still useful

Use 'recommended' at Sunday's local elections - Sileri

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 9 - COVID facemasks will no longer be compulsory in Italy from June 15 but they will still be "useful" and it will be a good idea to carry one around in the case of big social gatherings, Health Undersecretary Pierpaolo Sileri said Thursday.
"A complete elimination of masks is to be hoped for, I don't see big problems on the horizon, but on certain vehicles we may foresee a modest extension," he said.
Wearing facemasks will not be compulsory at local elections across Italy on Sunday but their use is "strongly recommended".
The rightwing League party is unhappy about this recommendation.
It has appealed to the regional administrative court (TAR) of Lazio against the government circular recommending the use of masks at polling stations. (ANSA).
