(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 3 - Italy's tax police on Friday cited 92
Sardinian fishermen in a suspected scam on government aid to the
fishing sector.
They allegedly got undue compensation for being unable to put to
sea because of military operations at Oristano between 2015 and
2019.
Police said they did not operate sea-faring vessels but only
rowing boats in the nearby lagoon.
The men in three cooperatives allegedly got over 1.6 million
euros in defrauded aid, police said.
They have been cited for aggravated fraud and undue reception of
State aid in a Guardia di Finanza operation dubbed "Promontory's
Funds".
Police detected the alleged scam after finding that the
fishermen had caught only freshwater fish. (ANSA).
