(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 26 - The government has tapped diplomat Andrea Benso as Italy's new religious freedom envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Marina Sereni told the Lower House foreign affairs committee Thursday.
Benso, hitherto serving on the general directorate for public and cultural diplomacy, will take up his post as special envoy for religious freedom and inter-religious dialogue shortly, she said.
The new position was unanimously approved by the committee a few months ago on a motion from the rightwing League party. (ANSA).
