Relatives cleared in man-in-well case

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 16 - The relatives of a man found dead in a well in Emilia Romagna last week were cleared by a preliminary investigations judge of murdering him Monday.
    The wife, daughter and son-in-law of the 77-year-old man found dead in the well near his home near Reggio Emilia Wednesday were released from custody.
    Murder charges were dropped, but the charge of disposing of a body stuck.
    The pensioner, Giuseppe Pedrazzini, was found dead in the well opposite his home at Cerre' Marabino, a hamlet of Toano, in the Reggio Emilia Appenines.
    The couple, Riccardo Guida and Silvia Pedrazzini, had been placed under investigation for murder, abduction and hiding a body while the widow, Marta Ghilardini, was only under investigation for disposing of a body.
    Prosecutors had asked for their arrest warrants to be upheld.
    The couple's lawyer said they were innocent and that the pensioner was not rich, unlike his wife.
    Police said they believed a family spat led to the man's alleged murder.
    He is now thought to have died of natural causes and the relatives are believed to have thrown his body down the well claiming he fell in it. (ANSA).
