(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 3 - A drought affecting the River Po is
worsening, the authority that manages Italy's longest river said
Thursday.
The drought in the Po Basin "is getting worse and is serious",
it said.
"There is an emergency in the Delta and Piedmont but the whole
area is in difficulty".
Water flow is 40% down in parts of the Po and 60% down in parts
of its tributaries, the authority said.
It said the drought was sue to a continuing lack of rain, snow
and the "grave aridity" of soils, as well as the progressive
impoverishment of the underground water tables. (ANSA).
