(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 17 - The government is prepared to consider calls from Italy's regions for the colour-coded COVID-risk system of regional classification to be scrapped and the way of counting coronavirus cases to be changed as the Omicron surge wanes, Health Minister Roberto Speranza said Sunday.
Speranza said "technical talks" would be opened on the demands in the next few hours.
Meanwhile novelties in COVID norms are on the way.
From February, in fact, the Green Pass health certificate will be needed to enter every premises apart from supermarkets, grocery stores, hospitals and pharmacies.
The Green Pass may also be required for lingerie shops, newspaper kiosks and tobacconists.
With jabs rising steeply the government is ready to change the way COVID cases are counted within the next two weeks, sources said.
And next week the government will draw up the definitive list of the only activities still open to people without proof of vaccination or a negative test.
The president of the Higher Health Council (ISS), Franco Locatelli, meanwhile said a forth dose of the vaccine could go to the most fragile.
On Saturday a record 700,000 first jabs were given.
On Monday Health Undersecretary Andrea Costa said the daily COVID bulletin was "destined to change", saying this was a "political choice", and that "we must reflect on the colour system".
Meanwhile sources said some 4.5 million vaccine doses had been administered in the last seven days, a record for the vaccine rollout.
