Rasi reports increase in severe forms of COVID in children

(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 6 - Guido Rasi, the former executive director of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) who is currently an advisor to Italy's COVID-19 Emergency Commissioner Francesco Figliuolo, has said the number of children to be affected by serious forms of the coronavirus has been in the rise recently.
    Italy is set to start vaccinating children aged five to 11 on December 16 after the EMA and Italian medicines agency AIFA gave the all-clear for the Pfizer jab to be used with this age group.
    Rasi said the vaccine was safe for kids, with over four million having had it in the United States with no major reports of adverse effects.
    "Now it's time for the paediatricians to have their say," Rasi commented.
    "The Italian society of paediatricians has expressed a clear, unequivocal position.
    "They are seeing an increase of severe forms of COVID in children in hospital wards.
    "Then there is the risk of long COVID in children.
    "This is the biggest risk because it is an unknown one.
    "The virus is experimental, not the vaccine". (ANSA).
