(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 29 - A 50-year-old specialized technician
died in a work accident in the Palazzo del Turismo at Jesolo
near Venice on Monday, the latest in a string of fatal workplace
accidents in Italy.
The worker was reportedly doing maintenance work on a fire
system for Venice city council, the owner of the building, when
a gas canister exploded.
The man, who was working for a firm based at Salzano near
Venice, reportedly died instantly.
An autopsy has been ordered.
Workplace accidents have been grabbing headlines in Italy since
the death of a 22-year-old mother of a five-year-old boy in a
textile mill near Prato in May.
The government has introduced new safety measures and hired
thousands of inspectors to try to stem the tide of deaths.
