COVID: cases up for 5 weeks, pressure on hospitals - GIMBE

Patients in ICUs up 16.4%, hospitalizations up 15.8% in 7 days

- ROME, NOV 25 - New weekly cases of COVID-19 have increased nationwide by 27% - a rise recorded the fifth consecutive week with a daily average of new infections that quadrupled on November 23 (9,866) compared to October 15 (2,456) - the independent GIMBE health foundation said on Thursday.
    GIMBE on Thursday released its weekly coronavirus monitoring report, comparing the week of November 17-23 to the previous one.
    The increase affected all regions, although with significant variations, with the exception of Basilicata.
    The trend led to a rise in symptomatic patients occupying ordinary-hospital places, up 15.8% (4,597 compared to 3,970), and intensive-care beds, up 16.4% (560 compared to 481).
